Supervisor – Director of Building & Grounds

  

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

 

  • Perform custodial/maintenance support for school activities. Custodian will strive to provide a clean, healthful, and pleasant environment for students, staff, and school patrons.
  • Maintain regular communication and coordination with the building Principal or Supervisor.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations.
  • Complete daily routine custodial duties in all areas of the building: Cleaning of classrooms, offices, lavatories, drinking fountains, corridors, stairways, windows, and common areas.
  • Collect and properly dispose of trash, and recycling throughout the building.
  • Respond to spills, accidents, etc. that require immediate custodial attention.
  • Follow through and complete assignments without supervision.
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and exits. Maintain ingress & egress of the building. Apply ice melt as required.
  • Clean light fixtures and change bulbs or lamps, as needed.
  • Anticipate supply needs and order/receive supplies, as needed.
  • Maintain assigned custodial equipment in clean, operational-ready condition and report any repairs to the Principal or Director of Buildings & Grounds.
  • Maintain custodial closets in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Make minor repairs, modifications, or light construction as required i.e.: plumbing/ carpentry/ electrical/painting.
  • Perform related or special tasks assigned by the Principal or Director of Buildings & Grounds.
  • Notify the Principal and Director of Buildings & Grounds of any necessary repairs or malfunctions on a daily basis.
  • Monitor building systems including HVAC, and lighting to ensure an efficient and safe environment.
  • Set up and break down for special/school events.
  • Examine buildings regularly for fire safety/student safety/security issues.

 

In the event of an emergency or snowfall, custodial staff are subject to call in for duties other than their regular assignment.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Reports to receive administrative supervision from, and is evaluated by the Facilities Director.  Receives daily work assignments from the Facilities Director and/or Building Administrator.  

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No formal supervisory duties.  May train or assist co-workers, but generally works along with those persons.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:

  • Education and Experience. High school degree, or equivalent, plus 1 to 2 years of relevant experience preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Commercial cleaning experience preferred. Experience waxing and stripping floors, using a scrubber, floor buffer, commercial vacuum, and other floor machines is also preferred, as well as knowledge and skill related to routine housekeeping and maintenance work.
  • Language Skills. Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Mathematical Skills. Good basic mathematical skills including the ability to perform operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability/Mental Requirements. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Communication and interpersonal Skills. Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently, and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations.  Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts.

Definitions - Physical Demands
